The area of the Fontana di Trevi (Trevi Fountain) is situated in the homonymous second District - Trevi, it seems that the name derives from the fact that at Piazzetta dei Crociferi there is a confluence of three roads (from the Latin "trivium").
The fountain is the worldwide symbol of the papal and Baroque Rome and was often celebrated in successful movies: of all the films is the most famous one, without a doubt, "La dolce vita" by Federico Fellini, in one of the scenes of the third episode, Anita Ekberg immerses into the pool and invites Marcello Mastroianni to follow her.
The district is located in the Centro Storico (historic centre) and is rich in many tourist attractions: one of them is undoubtedly the Chiesa dei Santi Vincenzo e Anastasio a Trevi, located on the square of the fountain. Because of the particular facade, the Roman population at the time of its construction gave it the nickname "il canneto" (= "the reed"), since it contains an abundant number of columns compared to what was used to be seen at that time.
Not far from the square is situated the Quirinal hill on which is the homonymous building which is the current residence of the president of the republic, after being the former summer residence of the ppe and then the royal palace of the Savoy.
