At the gates of Rome, on Via Tuscolana, in a park of 400,000 square metres, are situated the Cinecittà studios, the largest structure for film production in Europe. It was designed by the architect Gino Pressutti and built in 1935 on the ashes of the old facility Cines which was destroyed by fire. Originally it was an ideal tool for Mussolini to spread the Roman civilization to the world. The operation of the Cinecittà started with the film Scipione l'Africano, it then followed in the course of 75 years 3,000 films, including many internationally renowned blockbuster. From the very old Quo Vadis, Ben Hur, Cleopatra, La Dolce Vita, to more recent films such as The Name of the Rose, The Passion of the Christ, Illuminati, to name just a few. The studios of Cinecittà have all the necessary support services for each phase of the "filmmaking": from the pre-production to the production and the post production. Connected to Cinecittà, there are three other plants that are managed by the Cinecittà Studios: - The "Dino Studios," the famous facility, originally built by Dino De Laurentiis. It includes 5 studios in an area of 15 hectares, also 70 acres surrounding the Agro Romano in the south of Rome. - The studios "Cinecittà-Umbria" in Umbria, which include three theatres, from a collaboration between Cinecittà Studios and Roberto Benigni. - The "CLA Studios" in Ouarzazate in Morocco, which is the perfect backdrop for the filming of an international film due to its landscapes.
