
The Stadio Flaminio is located at the foot of the hill of the district of Parioli, closed between Via Flaminia, the parallel Viale Tiziano and Corso di Francia.
It was built to replace the old Stadio Torino, the stadium with the strict architectural lines, named in memory of the air disaster that struck the team from Turin.
The Stadio Flaminio was inaugurated on March 12, 1959, prepared for the XVII Olympics in Rome in 1960.
Designed by Pierluigi and Antonio Nervi, and after a further recent expansion, the stadium can hold 42,000 seats, of which 8,000 are covered.
Inside the structure there is a semi-Olympic swimming pool, a sports hall for fencing and other sports halls for wrestling, weightlifting, boxing and gymnastics.
There is a press box with 114 places for journalists with 112 booths for radio transmissions.
Since 2000, the stadium hosts games of the "Six Nations", a rugby tournament in which Italy also participants.
It is still used for football and has hosed the league games of AS Roma and of Lazio, when the Olympic Stadium was being renovated for the soccer world cup in 1990.
In the past the structure has hosted several music concerts, but the proximity of the stadium to residential areas has caused controversy and protests from residents.
To reach the stadium, it is sufficient to take the line A of the underground and get off at the stop Flaminio, from there you have to take the tram 2 or the Tram 225.
In Rome, based on the importance, after the Olympic Stadium comes the Stadio Flaminio, this building was built for the Olympic Games of 1960.
It was in fact part of a sports complex, in addition to the stadium there was the Palazzetto dello Sport on Viale Tiziano and the housing for the athletes. The entire area was called "Olympic Village".
The Stadio Flaminio is now primarily the stadium for rugby: in fact, it is managed by the Italian Rugby Federation (FIR).
The Six Nations Cup is held here. In the seventies, it was used by Rugby Roma, and today it is used on the club level by the Unione Capitolina.
There are also football appointments: the Flaminio currently also hosts also home games of Cisco, the third football team in the capital.
The stadium was built on the ashes of the old stadium, the Stadio del Partito Nazionale Fascista. After the war it was renamed into "Stadio Nazionale" and then Stadio Torino, due to the plane crash that struck the whole team from Turin.
In 1959 the stadium was replaced by the Flaminio stadium.
