At number 1055 on Via Tuscolana, on the south-eastern outskirts of Rome, the legendary city of cinema, Cinecittą has its seat since 1937, a myth in the world.
The largest cinema city was built on the former Cines, which was destroyed by fire in 1935.
The structure was already impressive during that time: 73 buildings covering an area of 600,000 square metres, 16 studios and all the technical departments which were necessary for the production of films: a completely independent complex, from the first shot up to the final print of the film. In just the first 6 years of the city of cinema three hundred films have been produced.
After the war, due to which there was a significant break, came the boom of the '50s, with the arrival of American filmmakers. Cinecittą deserves the name of Hollywood on the Tiber, and many films such as Ben Hur and Quo Vadis? were produced.
In the 70s, there was another important time for Cinecittą: masterpieces of Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti, Ettore Scola, Pier Paolo Pasolini were realized, and then Zurlini, Comencini, Ferreri, Petri who gave the Italian cinema a global prestige.
At the same time the studios of Cinecittą took care of a continuous updating of the recording technology, recording and digital post-production, a department that works with the latest digital technologies.
In the mid-90s Cinecittą underwent a deep institutional change: from a public institution it became a private entity, a large company that is managed by six shareholders with strong capital investment.
Today, the Cinecittą Studios is a major facility for the production of film, fiction, television, theatre, commercials and events of all kinds.
