The railway station Roma Tuscolana is situated in the southeast of the city, close to the centro storico (historic centre): in fact, it is about a mile away from Porta San Giovanni, one of the historical passages in the boundary of the Aurelian Walls. It is located near Via Tuscolana, which is passed by the railway at this point by a bridge which is called "iron bridge" ("Ponte di ferro") by the Romans.
At the station two important regional lines pass by that also serve for the urban connection: the line FR1 (Ferrovia Region 1), which connects the location Passo Corese in the province of Rieti with the airport Fiumicino and the line FR5 which connects the station Termini with the one in Civitavecchia.
